Arkady Balagan is a world renowned chess grandmaster who was paralized with agoraphobia following the death of his fiancee, Rosemary, just outside of the hotel, Huxley, where he's staying. And so he lives inside the hotel and started solving mysteries from his suite with the help of a very pretty bartender, a chess-obsessed student and a very intelligent housekeeper. Of course, we cannot exclude the hilarity caused by the arrogant head of security and the hotel manager who has it in for Arkady.

I love, love, love, love Endgame. It's light drama but there's intelligence and depth in characterization. And Shawn Doyle is an awesome actor. There is lightness and ease in his acting. His delivery is just flawless. His comic timing is just as brilliant as his dramatic prowess. The other characters are just as endearing and they are so easy to love as well.

What I don't love is having a cliffhanger for its season ender. And now, while I'm writing this, I learned that the show is cancelled. When will showrunners learn to end the story in one season? Television business is not a stable industry today as far as non-reality shows are concerned. The most realistic thing to do is finish a story arc in one season and hope that the network orders another season. Even Doctor Who which is assured to continue on for quite some time ends its stories in one series.

Now, I wouldn't know who Sebastian Wilks is. Who killed Rosemary? How will Arkady get better? What will happen to Pippa? I want to know more about Sam and Arcina. I want to see more of Danni, because let's be honest, that girl is so pretty and I love her character.

Yes, I watched again after not watching for six years. The last time I saw the show, Taylor Hicks won. He's a mean vocalist with really great control of his voice, and yet it still sounds so wonderfully raw. The year before that, I saw Carrie Underwood's developing into a performer until she won the title. She was so unassuming and so shy on stage especially when the judges start critiquing her. Then just recently, I saw her again performing with Steven Tyler and I was like, wow. That's how far she's gone in terms of performing in seven years.

Anyway, I'm glad Scotty McCreery won and not Lauren Alaina, not because I dislike her but because I don't think she's ready emotionally for all the baggage that the title would burden her with. Both of these kids have talent, different from each other, and either of them could have taken the title. But Scotty is the more mature between them. I think he'd be able to handle it better and yes, of course, he is a very gifted vocalist and a natural performer. Personally, my favorite is Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart. He, because he's funny and crazy and her, because like Steven Tyler said, she sings sexy.

I am not afflicted with my-Idol-is-better-than-your-Idol syndrome. The contestants I like or dislike has nothing to do with competition but their individual personalities. And even then, I am not dismissive of the contestants nor of the show. These kids have genuine dreams, even the rejects that I couldn't, in all honesty, laugh at them. I may or may not agree with how the business of Idol is run but that's beside the point. The kids in there are people who have feelings, and dreams and aspirations. And most of them who got in are talented, maybe some of them haven't found their niche yet but that's to come. If there's one thing I learned from both Doctor Who and Star Trek is everyone's important. Every single person, whether human or alien, has value and the need and privilege to be valued and respected. So, I'm finding that them being panned in the media so hard like it's the worst thing they could ever do to be very, very harsh and very, very unnecessary. They're kids... teenagers or barely out of it, and DOING something about their dreams (nothing beats an adventure in a blue box but hey!). Those people that remain critical, I want to know what you are doing with yours.

Only one thing I could say to this... Amy's clingy comments are coming back to haunt her.

I think I love her more every episode during Series 6. She's totally different from last Series. She's learning and she's maturing without losing her fun-loving self and spunk.

Although... yeah... I don't think she did much in this episode. Maybe the second part?

Castle: Knockout

Apparently, this is the series finale.

I was not in the mood for anything serious because I got home so tired from work, blah-blah-blah, so I announce happily, I'll have Castle!

Wrong move.

But dang it! The episode has some brilliant dialog all around. The story about Roy Montgomery, that's just heartbreaking... I didn't see that coming. As usual, more than Beckett and Castle, I love Esposito and Ryan. And that confrontation between Beckett and Castle is finally addressed even if it's simply, "What are we?"

The ending is UGH!! Why cliffhangers? Looking forward to next season, though.

And the next season of Fringe!! OH MAN! How come I didn't write something about it.

Doctor Who: The Doctor's Wife

Who else could ever be the Doctor's Wife. I mean, c'mon! Right? I love it! Love it! Love it! Two TARDISes and three consoles.

That's why the Doctor can never have one... well, aside from one, but she's in the parallel universe with her own part-human Doctor but that's beside the point.

Suranne Jones is awesome! She can run her mouth like the best of them. I can bundle her with David Tennant, Matt Smith and Catherine Tate. LOL! I'm so happy that they got her as Sexy -- LOL! That will always be hysterical. "That blue box? That's me." bless you Suranne. :)

I'm buying the dvd for Series 5 for The Lodger and Vincent and the Doctor. I'm buying the one for Series 6 for The Doctor's Wife. If there would be great episodes in the future, well and good.

Finally able to watch the first two-parter of Series 6. And there will be spoilers!

Generally, I enjoyed these two episodes a lot!!
I have no more complaints about Karen Gillian's acting but as always, I find her really adorable.
I wished that I'd like Amy Pond the way I like Karen Gillian. Know what? She's a whole lot better here than in Series 5.
Rory remains adorable.
I'm warming up to River Song a lot, but then again, my issue associated with this character is that, I've always been indifferent to Alex Kingston even from way, way back her ER days.
Eleven remains a mysterious stranger. I don't know if that's by design or what, but he remains an unknown to me. I know, he's the Doctor but that's all I know.
GAHD!! How much I enjoy Mark Sheppard as a sort of companion. I feel his role doesn't end with the second episode. He'll be back and I'm so looking forward to it.
Saw the Confidential and I was finally able to hear his real accent. LOL!
That kiss between Eleven and River? That is sad. When the Doctor said, "There's always a first time for everything." And River muttered, "And the last time." A lot of people think that there would be more in the Doctor's future for it because River said it's the last. But I read it differently. When she asked him, "Didn't we do this in the future?" she was assuming that they'd be together in her future. And since the Doctor said it's the first time, she got that it never happened in his past. And that's sad, isn't it?
I'm intrigued as to why River continues to punish herself and goes back to her prison. There must be some deep-seated remorse for doing such a thing.
And I feel sad, again, that she'd just do as she's told by the Doctor. Nobody does what the Doctor say. Just ask Amy, Rory, Martha, Rose and Donna... even Mickey.
The Doctor's solution to the Silence is a bit out of character, isn't it? To manipulate the minds of human beings to kill the creatures when they see them, is just a strange solution. And he's not even shown any regret about his decision. He was heartbroken when he was accused of turning his companions into weapons and as idiotic as it may have been, he even wanted to save Davros when the Crucible was falling apart. The Doctor has always been manipulative and would decide the fate of his companions. But to do this to the entire human race, removing their decision to do so and make them killers without them knowing? That's just wrong. I hope there's an answer to that in the future because I don't think I could come to terms with that.

Looks like Doctor Who is going the Classic Who way again. It's no longer just hints and subtle messages to be resolved in the end of the series. The death at the beginning, the regenerating child, the Silence (or Silents?), River Song, Canton, pregnancy. I mean, they're major plot points and would be resolved at the end of the series. They did this last year but it's more apparent now and it's not making me happy. I'm not good at waiting!

The irreplaceable Elisabeth Sladen.

I have to admit that I cried when I heard the news more than six hours ago. This is the first and only time I shed tears for an actor or actress. It's always sad to know about somebody's passing but for some reason, Lis Sladen made such an impact to me that I can't help but cry. It's like the child in me cried at the loss. John Barrowman's right. She's the great "Doctor Who Matriarch". She's always so poised yet funny and lovely and at 63 years old, she still looked like she had been more than 35 years ago, and I won't see her any other way.

Sail to the stars, Lis. The children, all of us, will remember your greatness!

It is devastating to watch the images and video feeds from Japan. The earthquake and tsunami were just too strong. I am praying for strength and safety for the people affacted.

I read somebody's tweet eyerolling the call for prayers. You know what? If you don't believe, don't mock the faithful. If you can't accept their beliefs, at least respect their personal culture. Intolerance is not cool.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!

I am not happy. At. All! You know, that feeling when you feel justified about being mad and yet it's probably considered trite and trivial by those from the outside. As if it's something to be ignored because it's not real. It's fricking real to me, dangit! I am SO not amused.

So, I'm just going to embed a trio of videos of my most favorite person lately: Paul Heaton. I'm so sorry, my dear, it's only now that I found about you and discovered how awesome you are! I'm 25 years late, but what the hey!

The first time I saw a Housemartins video (Five Get Over Excited) was just a few years ago. I realized then, that yes, I knew that song from years ago. That was it, it was nothing. Last month, H was searching online about what happened to the members after they split up and stumbled upon that little song, "A Little Time". It was ok and I thought the video was hilarious. Then I read the lyrics and I was laughing hysterically! It's when I started really listening and searching for the lyrics of his songs while he was with The Housemartins and The Beautiful South. I also found out that he wrote them. I AM a sucker for really good writers and it was then that I became a fan. HUGE fan.

I know, pop music doesn't really get good street cred these days but I thought, Paul's is something to take notice of. They're catchy, varied and best of all, organic. His voice is very distinctive and his dancing is to die for. LOL! And not to mention, his lyrics. My goodness! I know now why he's hailed as one of the best lyricist of the 90s, and I dare say until now. They're snarky, lovely, angry, funny and I think I just like how he combined the words, lots of them. So much words that he needed lyrics sheets onstage during concerts. LOL!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all have a great year ahead.

I've already seen the Doctor Who Christmas Special and I have a lot of thoughts. Unfortunately, real life is so busy nowadays that I haven't had time to sit down and really write something about it.

It was definitely very enjoyable on a certain level, I must admit.

Anyway, may 2011 bring us more fun and good life and some more David Tennant. YAY!!

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part I

OMG!!! I love it! I'm not gonna bitch about what's changed or what's not there because I long ago accepted the difference between the books and the movies. The only installment that I really found abhorrent was Half-Blood Prince. Oh man, that was massacred!!

Anyway, this is a movie that's definitely not for kids anymore. The trio have grown up and have matured a lot more than kids their age. That's war for you. There'd be SPOILERS probably...

1. I love the storytelling overall. This part of the story, the running and hiding, truly benefited from it being a 2-parter.

2. I love the almost documentary feel in some parts. It adds to the tension and the storytelling. Have I mentioned how much I love the storytelling?

3. I love the juxtaposition of the quietness and the tension caused by changes in wizarding world. I love that there were silent parts. Where no one was talking but a lot was happening. Where they chose not to put music to distract from the 'rawness' of the scenes.

4. I love the tone of the whole film. The humor and darkness are well-balanced.

5. I love the awkward dance. Harry was so sweet here.

6. The first scene with Hermione and her parents was just heartbreaking.

7. I love the fight between Harry and Ron. It felt real.

8. Hermione is awesome! Ron is such a lucky bastard.

9. I love how they showed that they finally acknowledged each other's strengths.

10. Oh man, the torture scene. I want to hug Hermione.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson should be applauded for their performances. They have come a long way from when they started. And David Yates, you are awesome!! The final films truly benefited from your direction and what an amazing work you did.

Looking forward to Part 2.

One thing I got out of this episode: we met this universe's Mrs. Morris!! Remember Mrs. Morris from Age of Steel/Rise of the Cybermen in Pete's World? Her real name was Angela Price.

Well, that woman in the ending whose grandma was Emily Morris who met Sarah Jane sometime in the 1890s (?), is named Angela Price. Though her face is different from Mrs. Morris of the Preachers, she still shares the name and the history of the Morris name.

So shallow but I got excited about that. :)

DUDE! I find this show intensely entertaining. LOL!! I don't really care if what they present as 'evidence' are true or not, I just know that by its fourth season, I'm enjoying it too much that I'm starting to miss Zak, Nick and Aaron between episodes.

I watch it without expectations that it should be like this or that. Nothing. I watch them for their reactions to what they've supposedly heard or seen. I just find the shenanigans of these three hilarious. The first couple of seasons, they are so serious and intense. By the last season (it's mid-way on its fourth right now), the sense of humor and ease just shine through.

True or not, real or fake, these three are majorly entertaining to watch.

Everyone celebrated 10/10/10 as David Tennant's Day. Hee! I think that's sweet. On that day, somewhere on Twitterverse I even wrote:

David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor, returns on tv with Single Father after a Ten-day hiatus on 10/10/10. How TEN is that?

I thought I'd write something about Single Father. It will be quite shorter (my version of short) than usual and a bit SPOILERY:

1. David's hot. (It's a valid and important observation and I don't want to be a hypocrite.)

2. He's fantastic in the role of a father, who would've thunk it?!

3. Suranne Jones and Laura Fraser are really pretty people and great for their roles! I think blonde suits Suranne's face, to be frank. She looks softer in that hair color.

4. The kids are so adorable and really good actors! The youngest is so cute! And the one who plays Paul looks like Burn Gorman. He could be Burn's kid!

5. I thought it's going to be mushy and soppy and melodramatic tearjerker but it wasn't.

6. Dave's cry of agony was so real, my heart broke for him. I don't begrudge Sarah for kissing him, snot and all. I'm kinda prepared for this inappropriate relationship, poor Sarah's fiance.

7. The director is a huge fan of Meet Joe Black. Brad Pitt meet Laura Fraser. Go and have an acrobatic cinematic death together. Don't like it.

8. Since they're mostly Scottish, their accents get thicker including David's, and it got difficult to understand especially, and this is awesome, when they're having realistic conversations.

9. Murray Gold did the music. David and Murray, enough to watch the show.

10. And speaking of, really? His character's name is Dave and his last name is Tyler? What the...? And do I have to explain that? He could've been called James Rosslyn or something and yet they chose that name.

Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the series!

The Doctor's Future

The popularity of Doctor Who raised the question if the Beeb will actually adhere to the original canon that Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times with 13 bodies. Well, it will be answered in a couple of weeks but not in the parent show... but on Sarah Jane Adventures.

And how fantastic is it to see previews of shows starring Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith back to back to back and none of them is the Doctor? And there's Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman and Mark Gatiss and Andy Sirkis! And Keeley Hawes, Peter Firth, Hermione Norris, David Morrissey, Rosamund Pike, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Gambon, Helena Bonham-Carter. RAH! RAH! RAH! Love it!

I AM looking forward to these shows.

Not Dead Yet...

Yes, finally, the real life drama has finally given me real monetary gain, but now I'm totally immersed in doing these work. I'm happy. I gotta say though, that I miss talking about tv and films.

Anyway, it's only right that after quite the absence, I came back with Doctor Who yadda-yadda-yadda. What else is there to talk about, hmmm?

Now, as much as I enjoyed these two (photo I swiped from Steven Moffatt's Twitter account because I just want to pinch Matt's and Benedict's cheeks)

because I truly enjoyed Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch (look at him at that photo--he totally looks so young compared to his character, and a dork) and Martin Freeman (who's always lovely--here's hoping he'd still be Bilbo Baggins of the Shire!). I'm looking forward to another 3 episodes in 2011. And of course, Matt Smith as Eleven. He's so adorable, very funny and exudes so much energy. I mean, he's the Doctor, of course he has to be all that and be charismatic as well.

But the end of Series 5 has brought me such melancholy and sadness at the realization that Ten is truly and irrevocably gone. I miss Ten... so, so much. I know it's wishful thinking at this point, but darn it, where is that spinoff series that should've been made? THIS Doctor down here, I miss him a lot!

I haven't had the chance to see a second viewing of the entire series except for Vincent and the Doctor which I saw for, I think five times. And watching Doctor Who Proms 2010, seeing and listening to This Is Gallifrey/Vale Decem by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales to the video montage of 10 regenerations lingering on Ten's 'birth' and final moments brought me back so much memories of the previous series.

I miss this Doctor terribly. I mean, really. Now I just have to watch him morph into Nan's Ghost of Christmas Present in a really low-cut, tight leather pants pretending to be vampire hunter.

There will be SPOILERS for The Big Bang!!!

Despite me telling everyone who listens that I miss Russell T Davies' writing and David Tennant, and I still do, I truly enjoyed this year's Doctor Who Series 5. Got two of my wishes: the Doctor didn't fall in love and lost, and that it's just pure adventure and fun.

Matt Smith, you are a great Doctor! You are fun and exciting and funny.

My hopes for Amy is that she's kinder and compassionate next series, that she won't whine and bitch and that she'd appreciate what Rory more for what he had done for her. Because what he did was indescribably huge. A couple millenia huge. History of Christianity huge. It's @#%^&*#$%! HUGE!!! H said that she's probably hiding what she truly is and covering up what she really feels with her loud mouth. I only have one answer to that: DONNA NOBLE. She'd slap, snark and shout at you till kingdom come, but she's still one of the kindest and most compassionate companion of them all and I never ever saw that on Amy outside of Vincent and the Doctor.

And Mr. Pond, good luck! And continue to be one of the most endearing companions the Doctor ever had.

LOTS AND LOTS OF SPOILERS FOR VARIOUS TV SHOWS and a FILM. This review will include Doctor Who, Emma and Little Dorrit. Part two will include Strike Back, Pride and Prejudice, Good Guys and Bourne Ultimatum, and my tiny peek at The Wire and The Sopranos.

Let's start with Doctor Who.

Doctor Who: The Lodger (2010)

I love this episode so, so much! For me, Vincent and the Doctor was where Matt Smith finally settled as the Doctor and this episode finally cemented his alieness for me. He's so endearing and hysterical in this episode. Craig and Sophie were both adorable and lovely. The subplot is really out there, though. After watching Pandorica Opens, I'm at a loss where the crashed spaceship that looks bigger on the inside with perception filter on the outside fit in the whole scheme of the series arc if it does. I really don't care much about Amy Pond here, like usual. Why does she bitch and whine like that? Poor Karen Gillian, saddled with such a character.

Speaking of Karen, I think she grew into her character in the span of few episodes. She and Amy Pond were perfect in Vincent and the Doctor. There are still moments of acting awkwardness every now and then but she's better in the latter episodes of the series. I'll say this, if I'd been unabashedly critical about David Tennant's (and I love David Tennant a LOT) and John Simm's acting at some point, I can't not be critical about Karen and Matt Smith.

Doctor Who: The Pandorica Opens (2010)

As usual with Steven Moffat, the story is very interesting and clever in a wibbly-wobbly-timey-whimey kind of way. However, the lack of emotional anchor and character beats that feel contrived made the episode a bit flat for me.

The Doctor didn't answer his phone that's why River Song had gone through a very complex way of reaching him. LOL!! I love River here. I think Alex Kingston is growing on me. In Time of Angels, my heart went out to her. The Doctor was kind of mean to her in that episode and she just took it. Can't believe her for doing that. But here, she argued with him, and she showed herself to be a woman of action and not all arrogant talk like she was in the Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. "I'm sorry, my love." LOL! I still don't believe she's the Doctor's wife.

Oh Rory! I miss you my dear. I hope you realize that you're a copy and that you find the real you so you can save the Doctor, Amy and the universe. When the Doctor finally realized it's really Rory (I mean, at least Rory thought he's Rory) he's talking to, I yelled at the screen, "HUG NAOOOO!!!" The Murray Gold's music did its best but that last scene with Amy and Rory did not do anything for me.

Have to say that half of what the Doctor was saying here just flew over my head. And the first half of the episode kind of dragged. The episode said it's epic, and the elements were all there, but I didn't feel it soar. I wasn't swept off my feet which is how epic stories always affect me. But yes, I'm intrigued and I want to see how they'd get out of here.

Emma (2009)

First and foremost and out of the way, I have to say, Romola Garai as Emma Woodhouse was fantastic!! Those times when she didn't have any dialogue and it was only her facial expression and eyes that did the talking, it was so brilliant. Her body language was also perfect, the way it expressed frustration and joy and sadness. Romola, where have you been?

Michael Gambon as Mr. Woodhouse was hysterical, endearing and sad. If a lesser actor had done this, Mr. Woodhouse would be annoyingly pathetic. Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. George Knightley was great! His banter with Emma was almost perfect pitch. My only complaint is that he looked a bit contemporary and not period enough that sometimes, it took me out of the story that was the period. All other supporting characters were awesome as well. I can go on and on about them but they're just too many so I settled for the three main characters.

This four-parter adaptation was awesome and photography, beautiful. The pacing and solid storytelling did the story a great service. It's like there's no hair out of place. Can you see that I really, really love this adaptation?

Little Dorrit (2008)

One of the reasons why I decided to watch this adaptation was because Matthew McFadyen was here. And he's Tom in Spooks, so yeah, that's how it works. Follow the trail these actors leave. And then I found out that Freema Agyeman, Eve Myles and Arthur Darvill were also in the cast. Martha, Gwen and Rory made it better already.

Well, anyway, on with the review. This was a 14-episode mini-series. The first and last episodes were an hour each while the middle ones were 30 minutes each. The atmosphere was definitely Dickensian. It probably took a lot of grading work on the part of CGI staff to get that kind of color onscreen. Though it didn't look washed out, it's definitely desaturated. The storytelling was excellent!!! It's very compelling and the mystery had me at the edge of my seat. The production design, GAH! It's just perfect. The Clennam house, for example, which reminded me a bit of Gringotts in Diagon Alley was so beautiful in its delapidation and obtuseness.

About the cast, well. Aside from Little Amy and Arthur Clennam, they definitely look awesomely cartoony. I love Matthew McFadyen here waaaaaaaaayyyy more than he was as Mr. Darcy and Tom Quinn. It's my first time to come across Claire Foy and she was brilliant. There were a lot of annoying characters but they're not annoying to me that I'd just huff out of the room. It's because they puzzle me and their motivations intrigue me. And they were played by rather fantastic actors as well.

I have to say, though, Mr. Pancks is my favorite character of them all. He's like a whirlwind, a twister that clears the room and leave a mess behind his wake. Eddie Marsan's portrayal of this supposedly unfeeling mercenary who brought with him uproar wherever he went while inside, there was this real compassionate nature was so beautifully played.

This is an adaptation beautifully and excitingly made. I hope it gets more love than it already enjoys.

Recently, I did nothing but watch tv. I don't regret one moment of watching Little Dorrit (2008), Emma (2009) and of course, Doctor Who: The Lodger (2010).

I'd like to talk more about these three gems but maybe later. I have other things to attend to. But please, if you haven't seen any of these three, be kind to yourselves and treat yourselves with good old classics. Well, Doctor Who started in 1963. In television, it's considered classic even if it's a new episode. :)

I sobbed like there's no tomorrow for this new episode of Doctor Who. Vincent and the Doctor is so beautiful that it felt like a tribute lovingly dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh instead of just an episode involving a historical figure. Awesome job, Richard Curtis. There is a reason, you are one of my favorite filmmakers.

There will be SPOILERS!!

1. Bill Nighy!!! He's reason enough to enjoy this show even if it's just a cameo. He as the curator even exchanged bow tie love with the Doctor.

2. I don't care if the monster is invisible and even just a plot device. The characters shone!

3. Amy is not annoying. Hooray!!! She's even kind and compassionate toward Van Gogh. He probably, subconsciously, reminds her of Rory. Heeee!

4. I love the Doctor here!!! So much. Matt Smith performed exceptionally well. And awwwww... he remembered Rory!! And the gift he gave Van Gogh, in the end, WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! That's too much. It's heartbreaking and hopeful and I don't know. For someone underappreciated in his own time, that gift is like NOTHING on Earth for Van Gogh. It's totally, astronomically priceless. He probably considered it, but in the end, given Van Gogh's illness, he decided what the hell, I'll show you your future.

5. The actor who played Van Gogh, he is good. Tony Curran made him funny, endearing, brave and lonely without being pathetic. And that room!! I laughed so hard because it's exactly like that painting of his... even the proportion of the furniture with each other. And the sunflower painting dedicated to Amy, it's.... awwwwwwwww!!!

6. When they were lying down on the ground and the three of them holding hands and the sky is changing into swirling clouds and stars of his Starry Night while he talks about color and how he sees them... oh my goodness!! It's quite beautiful.

7. I think they handled the topic of depression quite well.

8. Amy and Vincent, if they get together, they'd have the ultimate ginger kids. The look on the Doctor's face, all wistful, when he said that... LOLOLOLOL!!!!

There are things I probably forget, but I don't care. I love this so much!! I'm going to watch it again. As in, NOW!!

Life on Mars (2006, UK)

Finally finished the first season of Life on Mars UK. I saw the US version from start to finish. Loved it generally but the last 5 minutes of the very last episode TOTALLY RUINED it for me!!!

Anyway, thoughts and LOTS of SPOILERS!

1. Jason O'Mara is a whole lot better actor than John Simm. If you're going to refute me just because you like Simm, just don't. Because I like him too. He's insanely good in End of Time. But his first series as Sam Tyler compared to Jason? John's not doing it for me. Jason is better.

2. How come Sam's mother is called Ruth Tyler in the UK series and Rose Tyler in the US version? Is the American writer a fan of Doctor Who?

3. American Ray Carling. Well, it's Michael Imperioli, that's what! That's why he's got more characterization than the UK version. I was quite surprised when British Ray did not do as much as American Ray.

4. Why did they get an actress to play Sam's mother who just have to have an onscreen chemistry with John Simm fit for romance effortlessly? It feels wrong watching them just talking!!

5. American Vic Tyler is so much more of a scumbag than the British.

6. The American and the British versions share the same feel to them. Although, in the latter, it is very clear that Sam is in coma.

7. And the Americans did not have the hooligan episode.

8. OMG!!! I LOVE GENE HUNT FOREVER AND EVER. The American Gene can hunt genes the rest of his life on Mars... literally. But British Gene? I want to hug and squish him, call him Dad. And then he'd be grumpy and shouty but in the end he'd grudgingly say he's proud of me in some other insulting ways.

This is purely personal opinion and if you enjoy the show and the movies, I'm sincerely happy for you. And if you love it so dearly, please do not read this anymore.

The thing is, I tried watching this on tv before because well, it's Sarah Jessica Parker of Square Pegs and Footloose, and Kim Catrall of Mannequin!! I know! I was young and silly and I truly enjoyed those shows. 80s is my decade. And because of that, I was looking forward to watching SATC. Then I did. I stared and stared and stared on the tv screen waiting for something to happen and nothing. One episode and I was not able to finish it. I can't help but ask, "What the hell is that show about?"

I find it excessive and unfeeling and shallow. Hey! I'm all for shallow when I just want to be entertained, but this shallow feels empty. It's devoid of anything wonderfully human. Their compassion and pain is hollow and unreal. And that excess of self-pleasure? H suggested a word which I think fits: hedonistic.

It's not for me. If you notice, my favorite show is about a person who sacrifices his own happiness to save the universe and his friends; who doesn't even care if he's thanked or not; who doesn't care what he wears at all. It is so far and away from how the lives of the four women are portrayed in SATC. It is as far as it can get in the other direction.

Promise, I don't think less of you if you enjoy this show and the movies. Sometimes, you're really not what you watch.

... that I planted myself in front of the computer and started some Doctor Who rewatch yesterday. One which I thought would be a simple three-episode rewatch. NOT! One episode lead to another that in the end, it turned out to be eleven episodes. It took as much time for me to finish what I needed doing.

I didn't start with Series One because, well, I've been watching episodes on and off last week.

First, I thought I haven't seen Age of Steel and Rise of the Cybermen in a long while so I started with those. And for the first time on the nth rewatch, I cried for Mickey. I am heartbroken for him. And since, it's included in that disc, I had to watch Idiot's Lantern. I still love the incidental Song For Ten in the last few scenes. Why isn't that on any soundtrack?

Then I thought, the continuation of AoS and RotC are Army of Ghosts and Doomsday because of the parallel world setup, I watched those next. But not before Fear Her which is in the same disc again. I know I should be feeling so heartbroken for both the Doctor and Rose in Doomsday but my attention was caught this time by Jackie and Pete. And OMG!!! It's the next day and I'm still thinking about it. They just accepted each other as husband and wife, and got on with it. No over-analysis. No questions. No angsting. They just are.

Then of course, I had to watch Runaway Bride. Donnaaaaaaaa!!! Despite being loud and crass, she really is a good person. In a way, compared to Martha and Rose, she's the most child-like and innocent of the three.

And since we're on the subject of parallel universes, I had to watch Turn Left right after. What I came away with it? Rose can be an MI5 agent in Spooks. She can be really hard when necessary. That time when she sent Donna to her death? That takes hardness. Then of course, The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. H commented that the Doctor makes his come-hither voice whenever he says "Rose Tyler", that it won't be out of place if he says it with a wink and saucy smile. LOL!

The last? I've been wanting to watch The Waters of Mars again for quite some time, and finally! It's still so very goooooooooood!!! I thought I can still go straight to End of Time two-parter but it was almost 2 am and I was quite tired already.

And so, today, I finally watched The Hungry Earth. Well, it's ok.

LOTS and LOTS of spoilers!

Bones.

Tempe wanted to leave because she needed to think about her relationship with Booth but didn't want to because she can't leave him. Booth wanted to go to Afghanistan but can't leave because of Bones. I know I said I really don't like will-they-won't-they situations but dang, this two is making me eat my words. Maybe because they are not ignoring what's going on. They're actually acknowledging but Tempe cannot go there yet. Coward.

Oh man!!! The hand holding in the end. I don't know about you but since seeing the Doctor and Rose ever famous hand holding, I find it so much more intimate than kissing or hugging. And so, when Booth held Bones' hand and pulled her to him, I could have flailed but there's someone else in the room. It's a bit embarassing.

Fringe.

Just one line. "But in the end... you have to come back because you belong with me." aaaaaaahhhhhhh!! The kiss at the end made less impact than that line for me. Olivia, go girl!

And what really made me cry in the end? Walter and William. William removed parts of Walter's brain because Walter asked him to... because he's afraid of what's he's turning into. It's trust on a very extreme level on both sides. And when William held the door for them... oh man!!! *sniff*

I have to say this though... are they opening an opportunity for an alternate universe Doctor Who crossover? Because, dang! Those zeppelins are tantalizing for many New Who fan.

Adam Carter is Dead!!

Still bawling. It doesn't matter that Lucas is finally here but dang it! Adam Carter is dead. There is no way around it. I saw him blown up.

He's the most level-headed spy among them. He knew when to be hard, to be cold, to be warm and to care. He's loyal and he's very welcoming to his co-workers. And above all, he's a very good leader and team worker from start to finish. I am going to miss Adam terribly.

On the side, I flipped seeing him and Lucas North work together. Oh man!! If we're only treated to a few more episodes with those two working cases side by side. Feast for the eyes. *smirks*

On Doctor Who front... No. I haven't seen the last episode yet. Later.

Can't Believe I Watched Vampires!

Well, I finally saw Doctor Who: The Vampires of Venice. Amy can leave the TARDIS, and I'm rooting for Rory to replace her. The Doctor and Rory can be great manly-bffs together traipsing across the universe in time.

As much as Amy is adorable, I'm starting to doubt her companion abilities. She's quite dismissive and cold. I don't see the compassion and empathy I saw from Rose, Martha and Donna who humanized the Doctor. Besides, Karen really has to go back to drama school to improve. The character is already indifferent as it is. Coupled with mediocre acting, that's not really palatable.

It is with the companions that we're supposed to identify, but I can't with Amy. Rose was also a rubbish girlfriend to Mickey. It's most likely that they were both settling in, but we can also see that there is a deep love between the two akin to brother and sister, or bffs, if not as lovers. Even if Martha was pining for the Doctor the entire Series 3, and it maybe annoying to some people, she's there when he needs her, and when other people needs her especially her family. Donna may all be shouty and snarky, but she's very compassionate and she really took care of the Doctor, who started learning to move on while she's there.

It's already the 6th episode. Instead of an increase in Amy love, it's declining. And I'm reading similar rumbles around. Is that part of her characterization? Will she learn something in the end? Or is this a major flaw in writing her? Will she redeem herself later on? If she will, I hope it's not too late.

ETA. Isn't it quite disorienting and off if the Doctor sounds healthier in the head than the companion?

Oh Father's Day... Why Can't I Quit You?

Yesterday, we introduced a few friends to Doctor Who. They're a group of geeks so we know they'll appreciate what's in store for them. As much as I would like to introduce them through Rose, I opted to use Human Nature/Family of Blood first. I don't know why I chose these two. Then we continued to Blink and Utopia. They'll finish the finale later on. No time.

Anyway, when they left, I rewatched The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. These two-parter becomes a running favorite as time goes on. Then I also saw Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and of course, Father's Day.

Father's Day. THIS. Rose has awesome parents. I know Jackie can nag, but I can understand where she's coming from. She's just practical because they had a child to raise. And Pete saved the world for her daughter! So much love for this episode. So much love.

Favorite moments in Father's Day:

1. Rose telling the Doctor that Jackie brings out Pete's things after she had a drink to tell her good stories about him. Jackie's right in Doomsday, there was never anyone else despite a string of boyfriends.

2. Rose almost caused the end of the world and all the Doctor wanted from her is her apology. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh! If that's someone else, innocent or not, his or her downfall is assured. These two. It took awhile before Rose caught on, but the love between these two is both selfish and selfless, and it's wonderful.

3. The Doctor's wistful words about a street corner at two in the morning waiting for a taxi home... "I never had a life like that." You know deep inside he wants that simple thing, wishing for it to happen.

4. This exchange:
Pete: Who am I, love?
Rose: You're my Daddy.
I can't tell you how much tears I shed for that conversation.

5. Pete saying to Rose, "I'm your Dad. It is my job for it to be my fault." ahgoihreirhskjaklsvjiohw!!!! Hugs Daddy Pete. And some more tears here!!

6. Pete believed the Doctor died to protect him for Rose and decided later to save the world for her daughter. Hugs Daddy Pete some more!! He maybe useless, but he knows what to do when it counts. Then he, Rose and Jackie group hugged here.

By now, I'm all mush and drowning in my flood of tears. Every. Single. Time. For the last million rewatch.

7. And oh, how can forget that ending when the Doctor offered his hand to Rose, and she took it, and they walked together, hand in hand, towards the TARDIS. I think it's very sad and yet, reassuring.

Combine all episodes of New Who, including the last 5 episodes of Series 5, and all the Classic episodes I've seen so far, Father's Day is still my favorite. I love its quiet, its character moments and the way it showed a father's love. Doctor Who maybe about scary, creepy things, bangs and whistles, but in the end it's the quiet character moments that get me. The episode that will trump this one is yet to be produced.

There could be SPOILERS for Doctor Who: Flesh and Stone (2010).

I mean... really. She gets shouted and shushed at, a lot. And she just takes it? Despite her arrogance and what she knows, when it comes to the Doctor, she just folds. What's that about? Even Martha and Jack answers back and they're all in the same linear time as the Doctor when it comes to getting to know each other. River's smugness of what she knows is just a front.

I don't think there's any doubt that it's the Doctor she killed that's why she was imprisoned. I just realized... he probably would have this mad idea to get out of a tight spot that's why he asked her to kill him so he can regenerate. And she was imprisoned. For him. And she allows him to shout at her like that? Damn! Even if it's in her past and still his future, she shouldn't allow him that.

But oh man, Amy!!! LOL!!! You are so mad. Hahahahahahhahahahaha!!! I never saw anybody jumped the Doctor's bones like she did. It's hysterical.

No matter what everyone says about 3D and IMAX and all those fancy cinematic blings, I don't like them at all. DON'T LIKE. A good storytelling is a good storytelling is a good storytelling. If the film is seriously fantastic, it's more than enough for it to be compelling and memorable. Besides, they give me a headache.

This is like those singers who can't sing well. They use their vocal acrobatic skills to tell people that they, in fact, can sing. You can tell who really has extraordinary talent: those people who perform with ease without body and vocal contortions just as so they can reach the octave their aiming for.

I like this episode better than the previous three. It feels more like Classic Who. And I like Matt and Amy here better a whole lot too.

So, who taught River how to pilot the TARDIS? The Master? Or Borusa? No, I don't think she's a future wife. I think there's something else and Steven Moffat hinted about it. River is just a typical 51st century person who flirts endlessly like Jack. In fact, I'd love for her and Jack to meet... or have they met before already?

I just HAVE to watch this again so I can see Miranda Raison as Tallulah (three l's and an h, she said). Holy moly! So far off from Jo Portman and yet she's able to do it just as brilliantly. And aside from the Doctor and Martha, she's my favorite character in this two-parter.

Oh. This reminds me of that disconnect between the Doctor and Martha. It's just a sad situation. Here's somebody who's obviously grieving for a lost love and totally oblivious about others. And she's there hopelessly suffering from unrequited love. Ouch! She's somewhat oblivious herself, in a way, because she doesn't seem sympathetic at all about his suffering. Oh Martha. Her case is quite classic as far as unreturned feelings is concerned. A great but broken guy who looks like that... wow! For some women, that's pretty attractive.

... never thought the day would come that I would actually look forward to watching such suspense-filled show. Three years ago, I swore not to watch anything like it. It made me eat my words.

And they finally introduced Ros (8th Series was my first series before I went back to 1st). She was kissing Adam and I was like, "NOOOOoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!" I love Adam and I love Fiona. I am not fond of Ros Myers. At. All. And besides, there is NO chemistry! It's like Adam kissing his older sister. What? Is this affair going to torture me for two series?

If not for John Barrowman, I wouldn't watch Desperate Housewives. He's there for what, 3 minutes? I couldn't have fast forwarded enough. And by gaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhdddd, how come that show lasted the way it did. It's too... too... It's so freakin'... the waste water along the gutter is much deeper.

I was thumbing along Bill Sienkiewicz's Stray Toasters and I was like, woah! Very stunning pages! All these artistic decisions especially the use of mixed media in almost collage pages are just so visually stimulating. HOWEVER, I don't think it works on the comics medium. My imagination was at a stretch.

I don't want to say it. I thought Steven Moffat is a good writer and Matt and Karen are simply adorable. I really don't want to say it because I might come out as petty and bad fan and someone who doesn't want to move on. If you know me, I'm not sentimental. I don't cling to memories. I move on quite quickly... sometimes all too quickly especially when there's something to look forward to. But I tried. I really, truly tried because I wanted to love it so hard and I don't want it to disappoint me. But the only thing I could say about Doctor Who Series 5 is, I truly miss Russell T Davies. I miss the happy face of Julie Gardner, and her giggling, on Confidential. I miss David (I still miss Chris) and Billie and Catherine and Freema. Heck, I even miss Camille and Noel. And Series 5 isn't doing anything to make me forget them which is what it should be doing.

I want what David Tennant said awhile back, "In two weeks, you'll forget about me." Nope. It didn't happen. Those three episodes just made me miss him more. Matt is great but not enough resonance the way The Christmas Invasion made the Tenth Doctor nor the Ninth Doctor in Rose. Three episodes in and I'm looking for Russell T Davies' way with words, the way his characters talk to each other, the character beats, when to rush forward and when to pull back. It doesn't have drama, sure, fine! I'm ok with that. But make the adventure engaging with the pace, the acting, the direction and the writing. "It's ok" is not enough. So far, I'm not really impressed... and it's hard for me to say that because I don't want to say that but I have to to get it out of my system, because H loves it and I don't. It's hard to argue when no one wants to budge.

Some Thinky Thoughts

I just realized... my blog template doesn't show the date!! What the hell? Arrrgghhh! I'm really considering finding a new one.

Well, it's freakin' 18 April 2010 today and as weirded out as I am... Happy Birthday Conan O'Brien and David Tennant.

1. I saw Doctor Who: Victory of the Daleks (2010). I won't be making any lengthy reviews anymore like the previous two. Matt Smith is coming on his own. He acted better here than the last ep. Karen Gillian, though... dear, oh dear, you're such a lovely, lovely person but you have to work harder on that acting job. I remember Elisabeth Sladen's acting when she was younger. It needs a lot of work. She looks like such a happy person that deeper emotion is quite far removed from her experience to draw from. And lovely Mark Gatiss, you always deliver. I like this episode in tone better than the two previous ones combined but LOL at the multi-colored humpbacked Daleks and other things like science and period-related culture.

I have a lingering question that's been bothering me: Am I outgrowing Doctor Who? Or am I just underwhelmed by this Series so far? I'm actually quite scared that I am. I don't want to let go of it but there's only a very tiny spark when there was once a bonfire akin to Fallas of Valencia. I don't know. I really don't know.

2. It must be quite an experience to discover one's inner geek quite later than it could have been. To realize it when you're 44 years old and nobody else to share it with, that's quite something. But as hard as it is, it is probably very exhilirating.

3. Just came from a comics event. It's quite exhausting but fun. The fun part was looking at those comic fans meeting the object of their fan-hood, so to speak. It's quite a sight. I have been around comics creators all my life, literally since birth, that it's still quite a surprise for me that they could be such celebrities. Once I asked a friend who happens to be a comics creator, "Why are they asking for your autograph?" LOLOLOL! I don't know if I'm clueless or simply dismissive.

4. I'm so tired. I just want to go back to sleep. I'll start watching Spooks series 4 later.

5. As brilliant a guitarist as he is, Pete Townshend is totally Ray Buxley of Burtonsville High, it has to be said. And Roger Daltrey will always be Hugh Fitzcairn... "There can only be oooooone!!!!"

My assistant's niece doesn't want to watch Doctor Who anymore. She kept on asking, "Where is Doctor Handsome? Where is Rose?" She calls the Tenth Doctor, Doctor Handsome. She's 6 years old.

We kept on telling her, "But you saw Martha and Donna. You loved them, right?" She nodded. "And you saw Amy Pond. She's very pretty with a very pretty hair and she's also brave just like Rose, Martha and Donna." And she replied, "I only want Rose," with a pout.

And she wailed when she saw the regeneration into Matt Smith, "I don't like him!!! Where's Doctor Handsome?" Two episodes into the new series, "I still don't like him. I don't want to watch anymore." We told her, "But he's also the Doctor. Remember when he changed before? Remember you didn't want the Doctor to change too but you liked him again after awhile." She replied, "I don't want to watch anymore."

Oh dear. No matter what, change is very difficult.

Spooks Trumps Doctor Who... Well, In My Case

When I'm more concerned about what happens to Tom Quinn in 2003 than about Amy Pond's background story in 2010, that is really, really bad. I just finished watching Series 2 of Spooks that happened seven years ago.

I love Doctor Who. I really, really do. Although I'm still mourning the death of the Tenth Doctor, I welcome Matt Smith and Karen Gillian with open arms, and so far, they're great! It's just the difference between The End of Time and The Eleventh Hour is too stark, it jarred me. The former being very emotionally charged, and the latter more like SJA and a fairy tale, it's disconcerting.

"Good different or bad different?"

"Just different."

Steven Moffat has clever stories, excellent one-liners and uncanny ability to know what scares children. Russel T Davies has great characterizations, very thoughtful dialogues and speeches, and a grip of what a good drama is about. They're both good writers with individual strengths and weaknesses. I guess, it's just a matter of audience preference. I think I know who I prefer more.

Anyway, going back to Spooks. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! Tom. He really, really needs a hug. *sniff* He's beginning to be disillusioned about his job and this thing about finding the perfect life partner for him and his job, it's affecting him deeply. Oh man!! I hope he didn't really drown. With Harry, Zoe and Danny ganging up on him like that when he's so down and desperate, it's not good. Even good men fall down.

I don't want to look anywhere for spoilers. I'm holding out until I've watched the next series. Now, I want to see Pride and Prejudice with Matthew and Keira because of it.

Doctor Who: The Beast Below (2010)

I don't like this episode.

*SPOILERS*

The little ideas, they're really great. Smilers. I'm ok about Liz 10. Starwhale... although, it's a bit like that Torchwood episode, don't you think? Ancient, kind and last of its kind. Children crying melting the heart of ancient beings. Amy being the one to save the day.

But the storytelling fell short of its potential. It's like everything's the middle. I didn't feel the buildup to the climax. I didn't feel the climax. I see it on screen. There's a beginning, middle and end, sure, but I didn't feel it. It's like I'm emotionally detached from it. And when it ended, it just ended. I didn't feel relieved or happy or elated or excited. It didn't do anything for me.

Matt and Karen. I love you both already. I really, really want you to be great in this show but your acting in this episode feels so forced. I can see that you're 'acting' instead of 'being' the Doctor and Amy. The funny and dramatic moments doesn't have the oomph! to make me yell praises on your behalf.

Also, I think Moffat's story could have benefited from Euros Lyn or Graeme Harper's direction. Right now, 5x02 is just meh.

Bones 100

After Booth admitted, "I knew." And they have this conversation where he and Bones cried, I was tearful myself. Will they or won't they? You know how I'm not happy about this certain cliche. But right now, it doesn't matter. I just want to hug them both. *sniff*

You know, for me that is, the most romantic thing I ever saw between this two was episodes ago this season. I forgot that episode already and I forgot the reason why Bones was so upset. They were in Royal Diner and Bones stood up to leave. Booth remained seated but he wanted to reassure her so he pulled her back by her upper arm. And when she stepped back to where he was, he slid his hand to hers and reassure her. OMG! That was a very, very tender move on Booth's part, I'm telling you.

I heard what they did with Agent Janis Hawk in Flash Forward. Oh lord! What the hell was that? I wasn't very keen on this show from the start and now this? Bye Flash Forward. Even my love for Joseph Fiennes and Dom Monaghan can't save it from my ire.

Chuckity Chuckity Chuck Chuck Chucky

So, here are my Chuck thoughts. I've been meaning to write about this show for the longest time and I keep forgetting what I'm going to say. At last, I have something to say even if they're just some rambling thoughts. And yeah, I do thrive on SPOILERS! Maybe I should include it in my blog description.

Yeah, seriously. SPOILERS.

1. First off, Jeff, the internet porn guy, in The Eleventh Hour COULD BE Captain Awesome's long lost brother. Seriously.

2. Agent Daniel Shaw could be an agent in Spooks. He's hard. Too bad Chuck did him in. I would have wanted him to join forces with Lucas North and Ros Myers. A sort of MI-5/CIA joint forces. But you know, despite what he did, I do feel for him. He's been alone since the death of his wife, who he obviously loves so much. And it's not because he didn't have a girlfriend or something. He's just alone. No friends. No family that we know of. He's getting by everyday doing what he does best. Then he found the girl he thought he could spend the rest of his life with only to find out that she's who killed your wife. I don't think even the best CIA agent could see straight after that.

3. Chuck got the girl in the middle of the season. Is the world going to end? I can't believe they didn't wait until the last episode. Or is something going to happen? Hope not. It's about time they write another storyline and let the love story continue.

4. Buy More people are just as useless but I still enjoy them a lot. Their uselessness amuse me. Even Lester and Jeff grew on me. Yuck! I know, right?

5. Hugs to Capt. John Casey. He needs more of it every day.

6. And OMG! Hahahahahaha!!! Badger is at it again. I can't believe there are no more actor available to do these roles that they get Mark Sheppard to do them again and again in various shows.

7. Zachary Levi is skinny. I think I would like to see more meat on him. And so is Yvonne Strahovski. They need to be fed.

And yeah, Jeff and Awesome? They're totally brothers.

Doctor Who: The Eleventh Hour (2010)

Yay!!! New series. New episode. New Doctor. New companion. I'm very much ok with the change. And I have notes! There would be SPOILERS.

1. The beginning when Emilia (or Amelia?) was trying to feed the Doctor, hysterical!! Was she seven years old then? Imagine, inviting a stranger into your home without any adult supervision, AND lighting up the stove to fry something? That's really fantasy. That's a big no, no in real life... and would be downright creepy. Although, I laughed so much when when he said 'time machine', and her 'What?' was just fantastic!!!

2. Wow! was my initial reaction because Emilia looks like the adult Amy. Then I learned from the Confidential that both actors are cousins in real life. Hahahahha!

3. Amy... Amy. Amy. Amy. You are one pretty girl from Leadsworth with a very pretty hair and spunk. I already love you to bits. She has her own house with a TARDIS blue door! What's up with the kiss-a-gram thing who goes to parties and kiss people? I thought they just appear at your doorstep, deliver a message and kiss the recipient. I didn't know they go to parties.

And I feel sad about Amy. She grew up practically raised by the village (well, it looks like it!) and everyone knew about her magical friend, the Raggedy Doctor. Imagine being promised like that as a child, and grew up thinking that he just lied. That could really hurt. And this person who hurt her is now asking her to trust him, with the help of an apple smiley. No parents. Absentee aunt. 12 years wondering and 4 psychiatrists later... this time, it's the companion who has abandonment issues.

That meeting between Amy and the Doctor, though, it's like meeting Reinette in The Girl in the Fireplace. It's still very clever as far as the idea of time travel goes, but isn't it a bit like recycling?

4. The Atraxi spaceship is funny. It has one big eyeball attached to baby!Superman's spaceship after it left Krypton. (see Superman the Movie)

5. TARDIS... Wow!! She has outdone herself, hasn't she? It looks really shiny and new, and rather handsome. It's just a tad too colorful, I think. The Doctor and Amy could get lost in it visually. I'm still skeptical about the blue on the outside, though.

Jackie's waiting for 12 months is nothing compared to the 12 years Emilia had been left wondering about her friend and about his promise. Well, the TARDIS is also regenerating, I'll give her that. But 2 years off after she's rebuilt herself? It's either she's not ok yet or the Doctor's really rubbish at driving.

6. Matt Smith as the Doctor is already Doctor-ish. Well done, Matt! However, there's this uneasiness I feel about him still. It's this feeling when I first saw John Simm as the Master. That even if he's the Doctor already, it's as if he isn't there yet. You know what I mean? I'll chuck it off to regeneration and still trying to learn about himself again.

The Doctor finally stole another girlfriend. When will he stop doing that? First was Rose. Then Donna (I know, it's just an accident, but still...). Now, Amy who even has a wedding gown!! Although, I see more of Rory in the trailers so, is he going to be a companion too? And speaking of Rory, that was rather rude of the Doctor when he said, "Not you," pointing at Rory. "The good-looking one." Ahahahahahahaha!!! Rude and still not ginger. I'm not quite sure if he still likes bananas but sure does like his fish custard.

There were two more Doctor quotes that I found amusing:
To Jeff (or Geoff): Please delete your internet history.
To Amy: I'm worse than anybody's aunt!

And one that raised my eyebrow:
To Amy: I always come back.
Sure, Doctor. Whatever you say.

I also kind of like the Doctor's version of Shawn Vision. I love that it was shown to us how he really sees everything. And oh!! Oh!! Oh!!! The pictures of the ten Doctors before him at the rooftop scene, that's just fantastic!!! Good, good nod. Another couple of nods to the Classic Who were when he crashed to Earth like Three and stealing clothes from the hospital lockers like Eight.

7. Oh! What's this 'silence' about? What's this crack on the skin of the universe mean? Is this the thread that binds all the stories together? That scene when the Doctor was inspecting the crack on the wall, the feeling I got from watching that part very much reminds me of when I was reading Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

Overall, I love it and I'm looking forward to new adventures!!! I have to say though, the whole feel of the episode is like a more intense episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

North & South (2004)

OMG!!!

I'm basically reduced in a puddle of goo. Such incoherent thoughts that my mind has gotten itself into. I just finished the four episodes of this mini-series and yeah... so much love.

To make it clear, this is the British North & South mini-series and a sort of remake of the 1975 version which starred Sir Patrick Stewart. The American one was released in 1985. It starred Patrick Swayze and James Read which was about friendship during the American Civil War. I also love that miniseries!! I was in high school when it was shown and I cried at how beautiful their friendship was despite the difference in socio-political views.

But I digress. THIS miniseries stars Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe and.... OMG!!! It is so, so lovely I can't even!!! It is such a quiet story and there are great characters as well. I'm still at a loss at how can I explain myself... yes, very much incoherent still. Ok, all I can say is: if you haven't, please run and watch it now!!!

Home Sec. Lawrence + Blog Stuff

I don't want Home Sec. Andrew Lawrence dead! He's like a kid, it's funny. And he's innocent. Dangit! And the next series will be when, November? This is too much!! On the other hand, I'm looking forward to seeing Sophia Myles next time. I haven't seen her in anything yet except as Madame de Pompadour so I'm excited about this one.

ETA: I can't believe Jo Portman of Spooks is Tallulah of Daleks in Manhattan!! She looks very differently in those two shows. Can she be a companion in later series? The Doctor might flip over his head because she's awesome, very pretty and blonde. Heee!

On other matters...

I'm auditioning this blog template. It looks clean, simple and serious even if I'm not. Let's see how long will it take me before I'm irritated at how blurred these letters look to me. I can't even darken the font color! I mean, if they want to keep the integrity of the design I'm ok with that but at least give me the option to darken those fonts if not changing the colors.

I Think of Spooks

Spooks is called MI-5 in the US, just fyi.

1. I like the name of Richard Armitage. Cool! There's a rumor that he's in the running for Bard the Bowman. I won't say no to that! I like him clothed, though. No naked Armitage for me, please!!!

2. Lucas and Ros are assassins. They call them agents. I call them assassins. That they are.

3. The perpetually pursed lips of Hermione Norris irritates me. As in!!! Good thing she's one cool assassin.

4. 7th episode of the 8th season. I never thought a terrorist could make me cry.

5. I kept expecting someone with a big coat, could be brown or old air force type, swishing in the background.

6. Searched wiki about this show. Wow! If you're used to American shows, the turnover of actors in this show is staggering and disorienting. Even Doctor Who totally pales in comparison.

7. I'm looking forward to watching the earlier seasons. Of course, in a timey whimey way.

8. I think, and this is just some thinky thoughts, Armitage auditioned for Casanova and when David Tennant learned of it, that's when he said he's never going to get that role. hehe. Don't worry David, you won't be replaced.

Facing the Future + Neil Gaiman

It's almost Saturday. There'll be a brand NEW Doctor Who episode by then. New Doctor. New Companion. New TARDIS. New executive producers. New head writer. I'm very, very excited!! Although, I try to avoid the newest previews now. I'd love to be surprised!

ETA 01: I'd say! The Sarah Jane Adventures would fit nicely inside the shiny New TARDIS. But isn't Amy Pond looking so cool? And the Doctor, well, he's the Doctor.

And yet, I'm not through mourning Ten's demise as I have not yet recovered as much from Nine's. And I would always remember these words: "Even if I change it feels like dying. Everything that I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away. And I'm dead." Oh David, why did you have to be so good? And after three months, it still kills me that "I don't want to go" is so far removed from his parting words to Rose which was very hopeful: "And before I go... Rose, before I go I just wanna tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I."

I've gone through four Doctors now, in a timey-whimey way, and change has never been easy still.

Still... Matt Smith is always welcome. He looks very Doctor-ish even now in the previews, and completely adorable too! And looks like roller-coaster fun is to be had in the next few months. No more angst-ing and emo-ing Doctor, I hope. At least for awhile. Chris and David had been so good at brooding that it broke my heart every time. With them, I could feel the loneliness and alone-ness of the Doctor and it's always heartbreaking to see a beloved character go through what he's going through. I have to point out though that they both have the eyes (not the metaphorical eye... their biological eyes!) for brooding.

As for Matt Smith... I remember that scene in The Ruby in the Smoke where he's supposed to look smitten with a woman they're taking a photo of. He didn't look in love. He looked amused! I was laughing so hard. Well, I hope they'd go for real adventures and nothing much about being in love because I don't want to laugh again, at least until he can do it properly.

Speaking of Doctor Who, remember the time I said I'm going to meet Neil Gaiman face-to-face? Well, I did and this was how our conversation went:

On the steps to the restaurant's second floor
Me: Can I hug you?
Neil: I'd love you to.
(squeeeeeeee!! No. It wasn't a half-arsed hug either.)

At dinner table:
Me: I love Doctor Who! (Yeah, I need to blurt that out. Sheesh!)
Neil: Me too. I wrote one! (Excitedly and in stage whisper)
Me: I can't wait for that episode!
Neil: But you have to wait for a year.
Me: It's ok! I still have Series 5 to watch.
(squeeeeeeee some more)

I know this is almost a year too late but I just saw the movie!! There'd be spoilers.

I am a long-time Sherlock Holmes fan. Those two paperback volumes that I own are both pretty much dog-eared from much reading. I have appreciated how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had developed his writing as well as his sense of humor. Every year, I would read them. Sometimes even twice a year. That's until one of my students borrowed them and never returned them. *Sigh* I spotted these hardbound, Absolute-ish versions in a bookstore and I wanted to get my hands on them!!! Someday... when funds flow better. Then again, it might be difficult to read them over and over because of its sheer size.

ANYWAY...

When I saw the trailer of Guy Ritchie's version, I was very, very apprehensive. Holmes isn't an action hero and that's my beef with it. One of the reasons the books drew me in was how quiet it was inside 221-B Baker Street despite his craziness. His is an adventure without bangs and whistles and yet, every single one of those adventures is exciting and suspenseful.

And so, I was advised that I take it like it was from parallel universe. That's what I did. And I appreciated the advise so very much.

How do I find it?

1. As always, ever since high school, I love, love Robert Downey Jr. I think I saw every movie he's been on. Well, unless there are those I don't know. So, there's no surprise that I love him here, still as charming as ever. Although, he definitely needs to work on that accent if he so decides to do a sequel. On the other hand, Jude Law is ok. He's probably good here but I've never been his fan anyways. I don't dislike him but he's yet to charm me. Then again, I saw Gattaca, The Talented Mr. Ripley and AI... if it didn't happen then, I don't think it would happen anymore.

2. The relationship and banter between Holmes and Watson are very Shawn and Gus. Granted, Shawn and Gus are most probably patterned from that relationship in the first place but the rhythm and exchange are so similar that leaves me wondering whether the screenwriter is a huge Psych fan.

3. The architecture-based murder locations made me go 'meh!'. The first thing that came to mind when I saw that reveal was, "Did they copy that from From Hell?!" For me, the role of architecture in Jack the Ripper's killings is the scariest part of From Hell comics (graphic novel for you, pretentious types) and it despaired me to bits when it wasn't included in the movie. And then I saw the idea utilized here in Sherlock Holmes that although it's still clever, the awesomeness of the movie went down for me a couple of notches because the idea had scared and awed me in another medium and story written by the brilliant Alan Moore.

4. The triumverate of Holmes, Watson and Irene Adler is so much win!!! As much as I love the duo as they are, the introduction of Irene Adler into the team is so inspired. Holmes had always been smitten by Miss Adler and I think the dynamics changed because of that added element considering her reputation, and I love it. I love the idea of it. I'm looking forward to adventures that would include her. But the team does remind me of Harry, Ron and Hermione, it needs to be said.

5. I love the adventure feel of the movie in a historical setting! It reminds me of Indiana Jones in a more urban environment. The sets, though, remind me of BBC's The Ruby in the Smoke. I wonder if they were shot in the same place?

6. Mycroft was mentioned! I hope to see him in the future. I often thought that he's a bit more clever than Sherlock. And I wonder who will be cast in the role of Moriarty. Hmmm....

7. Lord Blackwood looks like the spawn of Andy Garcia and Steve Carrell. I couldn't take him seriously. LOL!! And what's more, he was given this black coat with humongous collar when his head is proportionately bigger than his body, thereby losing his shoulders visually altogether. Not a good look at all. The menace was most definitely compromised by the lack of shoulders.

Seriously. This storytelling idea is becoming a cliché. C'mon writers! Surely, there's so much more to hold your audience's attention aside from the potential of a love story between your male and female protagonists. Friends if friends. Together if together. Dang it!

Aaaarrrrgggghhh!!

Part of the reason I'm loving Legend of the Seeker is because Richard and Kahlan didn't dance around their feelings. They know how they feel toward each other. They admitted to each other that. And they are expressing themselves the way they could without repercussions to their quest. In the end, the story is not just about them but about their mission.

And as repressed as the Doctor is, he and Rose went on as a couple and enjoyed their adventures together. And it was a joy to watch them having fun. I'm sure they're having a grand time in Pete's World right now. Sigh. Now I wish there's some way of seeing that in canon.

Really. She makes me laugh and cry. I love her loyalty to Richard and Kahlan. I love how fiercely protective she is of them even beyond death. I don't think anybody believes that it's because of her allegiance to Lord Rahl. And yet, the Mord'Sith in her is still there and ironically saving their lives over and over. I love her story and her journey.

When I saw Human Nature and Family of Blood, it was when I had this ding-ding moment, "OMG!! The Doctor's totally Sandman!!" (Forgive me if I just realized it! I'm a new Who fan.) I thought then, oh man, Neil Gaiman would totally rock the Doctor. With his 5000++ comics, I'm guessing that somewhere between those pages, Paul Cornell must have been influenced by Gaiman as much as the Will Riker/Deanna Troi love story in the book Imzadi.

I think I'm going to keep H. He's making all these possible.

Doctor Who: The Deadly Assassin (1976)

First off, THIS has got to be the most hysterical thing I saw in this story. Hysterical!!! LOL!! That said, I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS 4-PARTER!!!! *SPOILERS 34 YEARS LATER*

Things I love:

1. The story itself. It's quite personal between the Doctor and the Master. Also, no matter how much the Doctor avoids going home, he loves Gallifrey and it matters to him what happens there. The Master says something like the Doctor's sense of righteousness and compassion are his weaknesses. It's about assassination, mind-control and greed. And the Doctor's quite heroic in the more common hero ideology.

2. The quite background info-heavy stuff on the Doctor where I learned that he's from Prydonian Chapter of the Academy with red and orange as their color (?) Is that some sort of Houses like in Hogwarts? I think so. The Type 40 TARDIS. That's he's a convicted criminal. Etc. Etc. I think I have to list all that down.

3. The Doctor's piratey costume. I love, love it! It spells adventure and romance (not in the love story kind of romance... you know what I mean!). The open-with-lace neckline and flouncy sleeves shirt (how do you call that?) His burgundy trousers is not high-waisted like his usual gray. The boots rock! I wonder if this is what the production wanted for Matt Smith's Eleven because I think I heard Steven Moffat say that he loves this storyline.

4. Castellan Spandrell and Engin don't know him but I think it's partly their curiosity and desire to know the truth that made them trust the Doctor. And they're quite adorable. Honestly. Besides, the Castellan could pass as Steve Pemberton's (Lux in Silence in the Library) dad. lol!

5. This dialogue:
Castellan: How's the Master with Mathematics?
Doctor: Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! He's almost up to my stan..."
Oh Doctor, never change!!!

6. The Master discovered the MATRIX on Gallifrey!!! And the Doctor was plugged into it to track him down. HA!!!

7. The Master also told the Doctor: "Resistance is futile!" And that's long before the Borg ever told Captain Jean-Luc Picard the same thing.

8. Cardinal Borusa, his mentor, gave the Doctor his mark for what he did, 9 out 10. Awwwwww....

My thoughts:

I wonder what the Doctor and the Master disagreed about in the past that made the Master hate the Doctor so much. Oh please. I don't believe the two of them were together-together in that way, so don't suggest that. PLEASE! I think, it's more like Smallville's Clark Kent and Lex Luthor kind of relationship but a lot deeper. Because in The End of Time, and not in The Last of the Time Lords, we are given a glimpse of how deep that friendship was before all hell broke loose between them. I know the Master is crazy since he was 8 years old, but what is that one trigger? Is it a woman? Honestly, it's the only reason I can think of. Are we going to be treated to a Special someday?

After seeing the concern the Doctor has for his native world, I can't imagine how it must have hurt the Doctor real bad what he did to end the Time War. And dang it, with all those geniuses around and the Doctor still managed to do what he did, he must be reeeeeeeaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyy good. Then again, he is well-traveled and 'worldly', to say the least. And well-traveled people, generally speaking, have more tolerance, more sense of justice, more compassionate and better sense of morality.

We are shown here a glimpse of the mentor-student relationship between Borusa and the Doctor. I think it was beautiful. Character development would have come in handy during The Five Doctors, though. In that Special, I think the Doctor would have felt betrayed with what Borusa did and I didn't see him react to it as someone who would feel that way. Oh well...

I think, this is my most favorite of the Classic Who-Baker era. It's soooooo good!!!

Casanova: The Miniseries

Just finished watching the Casanova mini-series written by Russell T Davies and starring Peter O'Toole, David Tennant and Rose Byrne.

Is a spoilery review five years too late still spoilers?

Damn you RTD!! You are the master in writing beautifully tragic love stories. I don't exactly know where reality ends and fiction begins but I love how this was written. And I'm especially fond of that one ballroom and the corridor leading to it with ever-changing designs to represent the societies Casanova got himself in. I laughed with Casanova and Henriette. I felt bad for Grimani. I cried when Rocco died. I cried so hard when Edith told Giacomo that Henriette is arriving soon to see him. *sniff* And Murray Gold's music, as usual, is astounding. The storytelling is quite surreal, isn't it?

One quibble: I don't like the 20-year-old Jack, Casanova's son. I'm sorry but I couldn't believe David Tennant's face could spawn somebody who looks like that. And no, the lip surgery has nothing to do with my moaning.

Doctor Who: Fear Her (2005) -- Rewatch

The only reason I can think of why this episode is not liked by many people is because it's one of the most domestic story in the New Who. That it's not epic some battle with cool monsters threatening the fate of the universe or not creepy enough. In fact, there's nothing creepy about this episode at all. Or is it because it's Rose, not the Doctor, who's figuring the mystery out from the get go? Well, I'd say, if it's domestic, it's Rose's turf, isn't it? That's what she's good at, 'the domestic approach', so says the Doctor.

In the Rose vein also, I think it's just right that Rose can see through the situation because she's been raised by a single parent. Even if her own dad wasn't abusive, it helped her coping not having a father that Jackie talked to her about who he is. Jackie did her right even if she had spun stories about the apparent greatness of her husband for the benefit of her daughter. And it turned out how great he could really be. *sniff* Father's Day is just so beautiful, but I digress.

Anyway... back to the real episode I'm going to talk about.

I actually like the mother and daughter story of Trish and Chloe Webber, both victims of domestic violence and coping with the death of the perpetrator. They are both trying to start anew and coping the only way they could. Trish is trying to avoid talking about it and forcing herself to move forwards as quickly as she can dragging her daughter with her. And Chloe, she wants to talk about it and cannot find anybody else to share it with. She needs her mother but the latter tries so hard to avoid it. That her loneliness is the reason why the Isolus was drawn to her in the first place. Trish, along the way, had profound realization of what needs to be done faced by the gravity of the situation that her daughter can be taken away because she felt lonely. In the end, after everything that happened, we can see, that Trish and Chloe will be alright.

The Doctor does make people better, at least, his presence. But this time, the family benefited through Rose, and it's alright. The Doctor can't save the universe on his own that's why it's necessary that he takes only the best people as companions who need only a nudge in the right direction to think on their feet and act with their hearts to do the saving as well. Although, in this particular story, it's because the Doctor was trapped that spurred Rose into action. You don't want anything to happen to the Doctor if you don't want Rose to go after you, it needs to be said.

"Fear. Loneliness. They're the big ones, Rose. Some of the most terrible acts ever committed have been inspired by them." Oh, the Doctor would know that, wouldn't he? Racnoss and Mars stories come to mind. But interesting to note that in this episode, he talks about loneliness and traveling alone that's so unlike the way he did before and will do after Doomsday. Like he's so far removed from it and talking about it as if he just observed it about others from afar. Maybe, during this time, he really is far detached from that angst because he has Rose. "There's a lot of things you need to get across this universe, warp drive, wormhole refractors. You know the thing you need most of all? You need a hand to hold." And he knows he has that all the time as long as his companion is around, and it's going to be alright.

Oh, and who could ever forget the silly things the Doctor was blabbering the entire time? Club Med, edible ball bearings, manly hairy hand, backcombing, naked Greek men, the Doctor's dipping his finger into a jar of jam, etc. It's hysterical! Let's just for awhile, forget the ominous "never say never ever", and revel at the happy.

2. How many years did Nine actually have with Rose?
3. How many years did Rose stay with the Doctor from Rose to Doomsday?
4. How many months/years did Captain Jack stay with Doctor and Rose from The Empty Child to Parting of the Ways?
5. How many months/years between Doomsday and Runaway Bride?
6. How many months/years between Runaway Bride and Smith and Jones?
7. How many years did Martha stay with the Doctor?
8. How many months/years between The Last of the Time Lords and Voyage of the Damned?
9. How many months/years between Voyage of the Damned and Partners in Crime?

Seeker the Second

It's... it's... it's like watching Doctor Who Series 3 immediately after getting so used to the carefree adventures and the happy of Series 1 and 2.

Season 1 ending even has time travel and it's still fun! In fairness, I only saw the first two episodes of Season 2 to really judge the whole series. But dang! Those two episodes are filled with deaths that probably rival the entire first season.

I normally could finish 4 eps in a row but 2 is more than enough for a day this time around. It's too heavy! But it's sooooo good!!!

Seeker of Legend of the Seeker

I may mock this show once in a while, but I like it very much. Not up there with Doctor Who for me but the women in this show rock!! I'm still on the 19th episode of the first season. There could be spoilers.

Things I really, really like about this show.

1. Sword fights. Craig Horner (Richard Cypher) is quite good at it and that sword fight between him and Haldir, uhrm, Craig Parker (Darken Rahl) on Ep 15 was amazing. Short, solid but really powerful movements. Knifework with Bridget Regan (Kahlan Amnell) is also good, swift and graceful but forceful just the same. Does anyone notice the fight scenes' choreography? Generally, it looks very familiar to Lord of the Rings. I wonder if sword master Bob has something to do with it? Although, whoever will replace Adrian Paul of Highlander the tv series for me, is still out there, waiting to be discovered.

2. I like Kahlan Amnell very much. Bridget Regan plays her extremely well. I remember that episode when a thief shape-shifted to look like Kahlan. Hilarious!!! Craig Horner is ok, but he should try minimizing moving his head when he talks. I get dizzy!! And Bruce Spence... well... all I can think of is dang! It's the Mouth of Sauron!!!

3. New Zealand. Of course!! Who can ever question the majesty of its landscape from Middle Earth to Midlands. Why is it both in the middle? I know what's on the Westlands, what about the Eastlands? What's in there? No, no... don't spoil it for me. I'd rather discover it later on.

4. I really have to talk about Mord Sith Denna the Dominatrix. Mord Sith... hmm... that sounds like combined name of Mordor and Sith Lord Darth Maul. She's played by Jessica Marais extremely well. That contrast between her physical features, which is quite angelic, and her character made her scarier than if she's just a regular beautiful woman. And her relationship with the Seeker is quite interesting.

5. Costumes. Not all (they're just ok generally, typical of fantasy shows) but there are quite a few that really stands out. Darken Rahl's outfit reminds me of the costumes in Aladdin or Arabian Nights. The costumes of the royalties in the kingdom of King Gregor and Princess Corah, they look very Arthurian. I don't know why I thought of that when I saw them. And of course, Kahlan's costume because it's very practical.

6. Those documents and paperwork. I think the person who did those things in Lord of the Rings did all these as well. His calligraphy style is all over the place. I can do these things myself, dang it! Where can I apply?

7. Is the map person different from the calligrapher? Because I think he's also involved in Lord of the Rings, and drew those maps of Middle Earth. And I love those maps!!!

8. The stories move fast. I'm not bored so I'm good.

I have to think of other things, but right now, these are all I got.

What I think needs more?

1. The weapons. The Sword of Truth most specially. It looks so new and yet it should have been more than a thousand years old. I understand the reason that it should be in excellent shape and form but there's no 'age' in it. I'm not saying that it should be stained and distressed but, look at Anduril, Aragorn's sword when he accepted his role as the King of Gondor. It looks pristine and new when it was re-forged, and yet there's age and power when you look at it.

2. I wish there were really good looking men. LOL!!! There are a lot of good looking women but the male species is not well-represented. I've been watching Craig Horner and after 19 episodes, he still does not have the charm. It's probably because he's way younger than I am that all I can think of when I look at him is Daniel Radcliffe in The Philosopher's Stone. THAT young and therefore, there is no charm, power and wisdom that goes with age. And Bruce Spence is... I can't really forget the Mouth of Sauron and that scene where he's naked in the first episode. Ugh! My eyes!!!

3. CGI. It could be better, but it's ok.

4. Slow-mo, show-mo, corny-mo. I cannot tell you how glad am I that the slow motion, 300-ish, during action scenes is almost gone. Ugh! It looks so dated, that technique.

This is my review of Legend of the Seeker so far and I like it very much. I hope I'm not disappointed with future episodes and seasons.

I just realized why I can't really warm up to the Eighth Doctor like I did the others. He looks like a vampire! He's pale, has curly locks and that upper lip looks like it will reveal fangs anytime. *Shiver* Not to mention the costume. I know it looks similar to One, but combined with his facial features, it does nothing to convince me otherwise. Oh! Oh! And how could I almost forget the Gothic TARDIS interior!!! Yes, I think Eight is a vampire. And you know how much I don't like vampires.

Loss and Grieving

I never lost a friend until now. I don't count those former so-called friends I had fallout with, who spoke ill of me and who I grew apart with as losses. If they're not my friends now, they couldn't have been one even then. The best ones I have right have been with me for over a decade. We may had rows and huge misunderstandings but we always patch things up in the end. Come to think of it, we never really spoke ill of one another nor do we call each other names despite the tiff that's why there's no fallout.

One of the best ones I have, I lost to Cancer yesterday. He's a 36-year-old child with child-like wonder and approach to life. A fantastic artist and architect, a toy robot collector and a fellow New Who fan. He understood my inexplicable squeeing over David Tennant not just because I am like that but because he saw why. He's cool like that. He's so young. His wife is so young and he loves her so much. He never hid his sickness, his struggles and treatment to anyone. He's very hopeful but when the time came, he humbly accepted the inevitable.

So long my friend. I'll see you on the other side.

Four and Sarah Jane

I don't understand the snerk about the Fourth Doctor's clothes. I just finished the first two seasons of Tom Baker and I found his costume not ridiculous at all, even the scarf. It's ridiculously long but it's not ridiculous. It even got muted colors. I even like the burgundy coat, not so much the gray. And he's not a clown at all. Why do all these ads about him picture him as a clown? He's not. He's quite serious with moments of funny, and I quite like that better than what he's being portrayed at in other media and promotions.

Sarah Jane is another matter altogether. She started out as awesome both in attitude and clothing, and ended whiny with the 'Andy Pandy' overalls. Wut? Lis Sladen got out of Doctor Who to pursue other things, so I heard. But I think she's more like, "What the hell is going on with my character?" Good thing there's Sarah Jane Adventures where she's vindicated and continues to be awesome!!!

Doctor Who: The End of Time Part 2 (2010)

I saw it twice already and I'm still trying to process what I saw. But let me just say, David Tennant, Bernard Cribbins and John Simm were all superb in this outing. I didn't like John Simm as the Master in Series 3 because he's like... trying too hard to be funny. But here? Oh man. He walked that very fine line between lunacy and sadness at what he'd become like a tightrope star. And Bernard Cribbins? He's soooo good. I love that Wilf is the Doctor's companion at the end of his days. And I love that Bernard Cribbins has given Wilfred Mott so much life.

And David. One of the things I often thought about him is that (based on other series that he'd been in and from Doctor Who as well), he's not really good at playing sad. It's like here's a really happy person being forced to be sad but it's difficult for him to do so. Yes, he can be energetic and manic, goofy and in love, dark and brooding (he does dark so well), but sad? I thought it's an emotion that so often eluded him in his acting. But here? For the first time ever, I salute you David. You have truly proven that you really are limitless.

I'll write more about the last two episodes later. It needs to sink in. And I need to mourn. Grape juice!!!

Doctor Who: The End of Time Part 1 (2009)

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!

No. No screen caps from me. But before anything else, to those who read my comments about a potential spoiler somewhere, I'm so sorry. Really. When she was cast, the news spoke of her role as if it's common knowledge so, yeah, I forgot that there are people who remain spoiler-free to this day.

Anyway. So. First, I like the intro and the structure seems so different from most Doctor Who episodes. The surprise was John Simm's name is included in the beginning credits along with David Tennant and Bernard Cribbins. So, in a way, is Simm going to be a companion. That would be a laugh.

Second, the woman in the church talking to Wilf about the Doctor, and suddenly disappeared. This is what got me into trouble because I was very excited for her role in this. It could be one or the other. (I wrote about the rumor thing but I erased it because somebody pointed out to me and the way she said it, I can imagine her eyebrows shooting up, with fists to her hips, so... and she's right.)

Third, that cafe scene between the Doctor and Wilf, and then they saw Donna, that's very moving.

Fourth, the Master is like this anime character flying off and releasing fireballs of energy and the skeletal thing. And the Master Race. Ahahahahahahahaha!!! Crazy.

Fifth, Donna. She remembers.

Sixth, the Doctor comes back to his senses. I think the Time Lord Victorious thing and Adelaide's death got to him.

Now, can't wait for the 75 minutes of Part II. New Year doesn't come soon enough.

Well, I got Tales of Beedle the Bard by JKRowling and a pocket journal from H. Thanks H!! I will talk about the Tales after I'm done reading it. But what will I do with the pocket journal? It's too small for my huge handwriting! I'm not complaining! I said thanks. I'm just contemplating what I should do with it.

My friend from Finland, gave me a blue shirt and blueberry milk chocolate. The chocolate was long gone. H ate most of it. heee! Thanks K!

A friend from Indiana gave me a pen. That should go with the journal. I still don't know what to do with it. Should I abandon this blog and go traditional... again? Hmmm. Anyway, thanks L!

My aunt gave me 1000 credits. Hmmm... what would I buy with it. She may ask what I did with the money. Thanks Auntie O!

My mother didn't give me anything this year but what the heck. She's been giving me stuff and doing my dishes when I'm too lazy to do it for the past year. Merry Christmas, mother! You know what I'm getting for you for New Year. (I don't give Christmas gifts because I'm always late in buying these things. I just say they're New Year gifts.)

The Doctor Meets Quinn Mallory

Quinn slides off into another parallel universe only to meet the time traveling Time Lord. This seriously tickles my fancy. Sliders is one of my top television shows of all time. The exploration of alternate universes is in the same league, at least for me, as the wonders of time travel. And now, I can't believe it!!! The Doctor and Quinn in one show. I hope this lives up to my excitement of having both these actors together. I don't know what to think of this pilot yet. D is not excited. I am in the wait-and-see category. Besides, Jerry O'Connell is here!! I like him. And Jeffrey Tambor who's playing his therapist. If he's anything like his psychiatrist character in Three's Company, that's going to be hysterical!! On the other hand, the photos from the set of Rex Is Not Your Lawyer threw me off the loop. I've never seen DT looking so posh in both films/television and real life that these disconcerted me a bit.

You get to watch Series 3 and 4 with all the angsting and emoing and sort-of recovering. Then you see The Waters of Mars and witness mind-snapping from all the angsting and emoing (at least he does it prettily). Then you see the Children in Need preview with the swaggering to mask off the desperation. You'd want to see him regenerate right there and then. All of a sudden, it's not difficult anymore to accept that he needs to go.

Then, you find this. It's Series 2 Ten and he is freaking adorable!!!!

Now, I don't want him to regenerate at all. *sniff*

I was rewatching a few episodes of The Brittas Empire (which I talked about here before because the Tenth Doctor sounds like Mr. Brittas at times) and on this episode, High Noon from Series 4, the Whitbury NewTown Leisure Centre exploded. Sure, there'd be fire trucks and fire fighters and field reporters. And who did I see? Martha Jones' mum, Francine Jones!Of course I had to get a couple of screencaps.

Adjoa Andoh never changed much, has she? This episode was from 1994. Who would've thought I'd see a Doctor Who actor somewhere in here. :D

Simon in Flash Forward

You know, if Simon isn't Dominic Monaghan I would have hated and annoyed at that character forever. But that's Merry!! Dom taunted Viggo and his mumbling. He pranked Elijah. It's Dom. He's practically Merry. If it isn't Dom, I would have shut the television down.

It's still is one of the most depressing tv I'm watching these days. I don't know if I'm glad or sad that it's stopped production for awhile. I don't even know why I do.
