Idiot's Lantern... No. It's not about that episode.

It's about television! It's the best invention over slice bread. Anytime! There are lots of shows I'd love to talk about I hope I remember them all... well, just a few.
  1. I just had a rewatch of a Brittas Empire episode. Oh man! I miss them so much. I think I'm going to watch the whole series again... oh... I think up until Series 6 only. I miss Mr. Brittas, his crazy, addict wife Helen, his deputy manager Laura, his building fabric manager Colin, Tim and Gavin (I love these two!), his irreverent secretary Julie and who can ever forget, receptionist Carol and her 'Good morning. How may I help you?'
  2. It's almost January and I can't wait for Season 4.5 of Psych!!!
  3. And the continuation of Leverage!!!
  4. I just saw the episode where Rick Castle tried on his space cowboy Halloween costume which he had since 5 years ago! Oh man! I'm so immensely entertained by that. Immensely!!
  5. One of the best ensemble cast ever, I think, is Bones. I love each and every character in that show, not just Booth and Brennan. Cam, Hodges, Angela, Sweets, Zack, and even the rotating assistants: the sturdy Wendell, over-excited Daisy, trivia-loving Nigel, death-obsessed Fisher, easily scandalized Sam (?, dang! forgot his name... the other assistant who's having difficulty accepting the non-professional manner of his bosses?). And who can forget Stephen Fry? I was flailing when I saw him there.
  6. I want to slap the Doctor to regeneration and hug him at the same time. That's what I feel about the Children in Need preview. And oh my word!!! Virgin Queen is no longer Queen Elizabeth's nickname after her marriage with the Doctor!! Ahhhh... he is in so much pain and I can feel it. I think it's a gift to have David Tennant there because as much as you want to hate him now, DT makes it easy for us to accept a hurting Doctor and would like him to be better soon. *Hugs the Doctor*
  7. Awwwww.... Clyde and Rani. Awwwwwww....
  8. It's not tv but I'm surfing YouTube and found this video. Just the link because they disabled embedding. I think It's the sexiest dance ever and Patrick Swayze performed this flawlessly. Makes you believe that this was about that metaphorical dance.
  9. Lastly, not television again but H told me about this apparently award-winning, critically-acclaimed graphic novel Fun Home which he doesn't understand why it's acclaimed at all because it's Boring with a capital 'B'. I need to read it because apparently, it's one of those pretentious stuff with too much big words but not saying anything actually. Ha! If that's true, I'll have a field day cursing it.

Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars

When I first saw this image above, I didn't recognize the Doctor. I mean, he looks totally different. And wow! He's really different.

Four bullet points for you. Just four. *Spoilers ahead*
  • Capt. Adelaide Brooke is awesome! I would have followed her but dang! Does she have to go that way? I couldn't believe it!!!
  • THAT is a very dark Doctor Who episode... a god-like Doctor isn't made of win. At all. What did I say about the Tenth Doctor? He's dark and this episode further cements that thought. It's not the monsters that scared the hell out of me. It's the Doctor. And scary Doctor is scary!
  • Lindsay Duncan is fantastic!
  • David Tennant is at his best when he's child-like with child-like enthusiasm, and when he plays dark characters. And this time? He's at his absolute best!!!
It's going to get worse before it gets any better. And I remember David Tennant saying that it's going to have some fairy tale ending. That means it's going to that dark place before the Doctor finally accepts who he is and his place in the universe and just what he really needs: a hand to hold.

Is it Christmas already?!

ETA: It's been several hours since the episode. I know, I already did a massive Series 1 and 2 rewatch awhile back, but I need a massive dose of the happy now. Don't get me wrong, I still love WoM and I think I can watch it again but dang, that's so painful. I can't blame the people who'd love to move to Pete's World right now. Ten is just so f****d up. :(

SJA: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith

The Doctor is IN!!

I don't know about you but I love this show so much. Apparently, a former companion and a trio of teenagers are so much more awesome in defending the earth than this universe's Torchwood. Stories are much better and storytelling, much more solid than the other spin-off as a whole. (Of all the three seasons of Torchwood, I only love the last one but it's so dang depressing.)

So much for that, on with the show! *Spoilers ahead*

First of all, I have to say this, I'm so, so glad Peter Dalton was a decent bloke who really loved Sarah Jane and didn't want her to be alone. Awww... And how freely they tell each other that they love one another. How very rare is that in Whoniverse? Sadly, it didn't end well but he's so awesome, he saved the world! Sarah Jane couldn't have chosen a better man!

Second, hearing the TARDIS in the background trying to get through is just awesome! And how each of Clyde, Luke, Rani and eventually, Sarah Jane, were given the chance to hear it at different points of the show. That is just cool.

Third, how Sarah Jane dismissed the Doctor as unreliable. Hahahahaha! I think that's hysterical!

Fourth, the Doctor!!! "Stop the wedding right now!" Impeccable timing that Time Lord. Well, at least for this show. More often than not, he misses or runs out of time. And how cool is it that his companions this time are kids! I'd love for another episode where the Doctor runs around and saving the world with the coolest bunch of teenagers. That's going to be really fun! Remember the last time the Doctor roamed the universe with a teenager? That was sooo full of fun and I would love to see that again.

Fifth, it's only the Doctor who can call her Sarah. The rest of us mortals are required to utter the other syllable 'Jane'.

Sixth, Clyde strikes again! He absorbed quite an amount of Artron energy of the TARDIS to weaken the Trickster. So, what's really going on with Clyde? Hmmmm??? What's the future for him? Remember, Ship didn't show us his future. Only Sarah Jane's, Luke's and Rani's. Why is that? Spoilers?

Seventh, of course the kids have to be inside the TARDIS. And I love that it's Rani who asked for permission to do so. And speaking of Rani, is she getting prettier as the show goes on? Although, I miss Luke here. He isn't getting any further with regards to his character development, is he?

I can't wait for next week's episode!!!

Oh, Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars on 15 November 2009. I can't wait!! I heard Lindsay Duncan's voice in that trailer. Isn't that just one of the most autocratic, beautiful voice ever? If only Kate Mulgrew has that voice, I would have watched Star Trek: Voyager. Heee!

SJA: The Mad Woman in the Attic

Yay! New season of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I didn't write anything about Prisoner of the Judoon because, well, I was not compelled to do so. This time, though, there's so much that I love about this two-parter. *Spoilers ahead*

One, the new alien named Eve has a spaceship called Ship who communicates just like Holly (but not as wacky) in Red Dwarf. Eve's a telepathic being and her world was affected by the Time War. Although it wasn't specifically mentioned, I still flailed and said, "Time War!!"

Two, 15-year-old Clyde was shamelessly flirting with Sarah Jane. I don't know, are they setting up a story for him? a) He does the intro for two stories now; and, b) He's actually more concerned about Sarah Jane than Luke or Rani to the point that he's the one thinking that Sarah Jane's fiance's an alien (next week).

Three, when Ship showed Sarah Jane her past, there was Doctor Three and Doctor Four!!! How cool was that?

Four, when Ship showed Sarah Jane her future, there was a materializing TARDIS in her attic and a glimpse of Doctor Ten. Yay!! Can't wait for next week's story.

Five, Rani's friend Sam became Eve's friend too and joined her in her space travel and adventures. They became a couple and had a son. Awwwww.... Her adoptive human father joined her too.

And Six, they recognized what could Rani be feeling about being an outsider in an already tightly-knit group that still includes Maria even if she's moved to America.

Writers, Writers, Writers

Some writers use BIG words because they can. Some others abuse them just because they THOUGHT they can. There's a HUGE difference. Doesn't mean Alan Moore can do it, you can do it too. Neil Gaiman can do it but he uses them sparingly and it doesn't hurt him at all as a writer.

Most of these writers can be found in review and lifestyle columns in newspapers and magazines. It's like they found these 3-inch thick King James Bible version-sized thesaurus and keep on finding those synonyms to simple words. The point of writing in these media is to communicate to your readers; to make yourself heard. Not to show off that you can use those words. It's like saying, 'See, I can use these. I bet you won't be able to understand because I'm better than you.' Yes, dear writers, your arrogance and conceit show in your pieces. Maybe, you should just use your spaces to list down the words you know and forget what you have to say.

Ha! Someone will say I'm just jealous. Absolutely not! I know I'm not a writer. I just blabber my thoughts here and I have no further ambition to write beyond my corner in cyberspace.

Rant off! Eyeroll full stop.
